Friday Giveaway: Freedom for the New Mom

I fell in love with this picture when I saw it.   It reminded me of all the ways that parents have to be creative to continue to be in the world as people, while also caring for their children as parents. Baby carriers, for me, were the solution to just about every conundrum I faced of how I was going to take care of my child while I did something that was important to me that maybe didn’t lend itself to chasing a child around.

Our Friday Giveaway is for parents for whom a baby carrier still helps them be in the world more easily, and for the people who love them – if you don’t have need for a (gorgeous, by the way) new Balboa Baby sling, we hope you’ll enter anyway and give it to a parent who could use an extra hand.

It looks like this:

How do you enter?

To enter our drawing:

  1. LIKE our giveaway post over at our Facebook Page
  2. Comment below: What are/were the activities that are/were important to you when you were parenting young kids, things where an extra hand would have been helpful?  Are you an activist who marches a lot? Are you a dancer who needs to “put a sling on it“?  Do you bring your child to work and a sling helps you actually get something done?

We’ll announce the winner on this post in the comments section on Saturday, December 8th, so check back here to see if you’ve won!

I like to be active by taking walks and I want to share my love of the outdoors with my kids, so we took them outside as much as possible from the beginning. Slings are a great way to stay active and remain close to your child.

I have a 2.5 year old and a 5 month old. A sling or carrier helps me do everything with my daughter. I am able to interact with the baby while still playing with my daughter. It also helps make outside play possible. I love being able to give my kids my all without having to break myself to do it.

Although it’s not really an activity I like to do, I can’t imagine not having a carrier for grocery shopping — not only in the store, but unloading bags to the car!

I wear my daughter while bowling. If I didn’t, I would be chasing her all over the place instead of getting to play.

We are expecting our next child in July. It’s hard to imagine running after what will by then be our active 3 year old daughter, and still tending to the needs of a newborn. Baby- wearing is such a great solution to this. I’ll be able to play and give the attention my daughter needs, while having precious bonding time with the newborn.

  • We have a winner! Kristy Martin, COME ON DOWN! :-D
